Zamboanga del Norte police chief dies

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Zamboanga del Norte acting police director Police Col. Rodrigo Omega Maramo died in a hospital before dawn Wednesday, August 3.

Reports from the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Office said Maramo died of acute respiratory failure secondary to hypertensive cerebrovascular disease at the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Hospital in Sicayab, Dipolog City.

Maramo was said to have experienced dizziness and asked to be brought to the hospital at around 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, where he was given medical attention. He died hours later at 1:55 a.m.

His remains were taken to the St. Peter Funeral Homes in Barangay Estaka, Dipolog City.

“It is with great sadness that we experience his kind of leadership for a short period of time. His passing marks in our hearts that will take time to heal. But we will carry on bearing the lessons he instilled in all of us,” said a statement by the Zamboanga del Norte police provincial office on social media.

Maramo is a native of Zamboanga who occupied various posts in Zamboanga City and areas under the Police Regional Office-9 prior to being assigned as acting Zamboanga del Norte police chief.
