'Habagat' rains persist in northern Luzon

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to affect parts of northern Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, August 3.

“Light to moderate with at times heavy rain showers during thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening” are expected over Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, and Cagayan.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in the areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in the hazards maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Moreover, PAGASA said the entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
