Bato thumbs down ICC trial: 'Only PH court and court of God for me'

Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, who previously led the Duterte administration's war on drugs as police chief, said Wednesday, Aug. 3, that he is one with the victims and families of the bloody campaign.

However, he said he is not willing to face prosecution from the international court regarding it.

Dela Rosa, who admitted to being the "number 2 accused" in crimes against humanity in connection with the war on drugs, said he will not face any trial from the International Criminal Court (ICC) since he recognizes only two kinds of courts.

"Dalawa lang ang haharapin kong korte. Korte ng Pilipinas and korte ng Panginoon doon sa langit (There are only two courts that I will face. The Philippine court and the court of God in heaven)," he said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

"Kahit kayo man siguro kung kayo ma-akusa... I'm sure ayaw nyo magpa-prosecute at mag pa-try doon sa mga banyaga na korte na walang alam dito sa nangyayari sa ating bansa (Because even you, I'm sure, you don't want to be prosecuted and tried by foreign courts that have no idea about what's happening in our country)," he added.

Dela Rosa, who recently said he is "happy" with the Philippines' staying out of the ICC, said he is with the victims in their search for justice because even he does not like abusive police officers.

He went on to offer help to help the victims.

"Sabihan niyo lang kung ano yung maitutulong ko sa inyo, nandito lang ako (Just tell me how can I help you, I'll be here)," he added.
