Ateneo shooter enters 'not guilty' plea to illegal possession of firearms, malicious mischief raps
The suspect in the killing of former Lamitan mayor Rosita “Rose” Furigay and two others inside the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) campus last July 24 has pleaded “not guilty” to illegal possession of firearms and malicious mischief charges filed against him.
According to DZBB Super Radyo report, Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol entered a “not guilty” when he was arraigned on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 133.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) filed the two charges against Yumol last July 25, along three other cases -- three counts of murder, one count of frustrated murder, and violation of Republic Act 10883 (The Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016).
The Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office indicted the alleged gunman on July 27.
Yumol shot and killed Furigay; Victor Capistrano, the former mayor’s aide; and Jeneven Bandiala, an ADMU security guard, during the graduation of law students inside the ADMU campus. Hannah, Furigay’s daughter, also sustained gunshot wounds.
According to the report, the pre-trial of the suspect’s cases was moved by the court to Sept. 5 from Aug. 23 after Yumol requested for an extension as he will be replacing his lawyer.
Yumol’s arraignment for murder and frustrated murder charges will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the QC Regional Trial Court Branch 98, the report said.
