Meneses sees bright side of AVC Cup stint

Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses opted to look on the bright side of the team's sixth place finish in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women after falling to Chinese Taipei, 28-26, 25-21, 25-21, on Monday, Aug. 29, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Philippine squad, represented by the Premier Volleyball League champions Cool Smashers, finished the tournament with three wins and four losses, highlighted by a five-set victory over Australia last Sunday, Aug. 29.

Despite a short notice to play in the AVC tournament, the Filipina spikers did not disappoint, showing much resolve and composure against taller and heftier teams.

“Siyempre thankful kami doon sa mga nag-step up sa tournament na to. Talagang binigay din nila ‘yong best nila. 'Yong team familiarity and team chemistry napakahalaga dito sa tournament na to. Hopefully, ma-improve pa natin ‘yong highest level ng volleyball sa tournament na sasalihan ng Pilipinas,” said Meneses.

Creamline, which played without its star player Alyssa Valdez who was recovering from dengue, revealed that it will join the 2022 ASEAN Grand Prix from Sept. 9 to 11 in Thailand.

Siguro kung nakumpleto kami naging mas maganda pa ‘yong ilalaro namin kasi syempre galing kami sa PVL championship. So mas maganda kung buo talaga ‘yong team. Hopefully, makabalik siya (after) ng fast recovery niya. Syempre iba rin naman talaga ‘yong may Alyssa ka sa team,” added Meseses. (Nikole Javier)
