Agriculture Ministry employee shot dead in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY - An employee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform was shot dead at Purok Almaciga, Barangay San Rafael, Isabela City in Basilan Province Sunday night, Aug. 28.

PMaj. Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-9 Public Information Officer, identified the victim as Arsad Jakaria, 54, and a resident of Mabarakat Village, Barangay Aguada, Isabela City.

Chang said the victim was outside the house of his second wife when an unidentified suspect approached and shot him in the forehead.

Jakaria was rushed to the Basilan Community Hospital but expired while undergoing treatment.

Police recovered a fired cartridge case of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Isabela City police are conducting a follow up operation to identify the suspect.
