4 NPA rebels surrender in Cagayan

PENABLANCA, Cagayan – Four New People’s Army (NPA) members surrendered to State to the Army here Thursday, Aug. 25

The surrenderers were in their middle and early 20s and members of the Komiteng Probinsya-Isabela.

Brig. Gen. Danilo Benavides, Joint Task Force Liberator commander, said they surrendered eight high-powered firearms and handheld radios.

The surrenderers and the firearms are now under their custody, Benavides said.

Major Gen. Laurence Mina, Joint Task Force Tala chief, attributed their peaceful surrender to the relentless efforts of the 95th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Carlos Sangdaan Jr. and support of residents in the anti-insurgency campaign.

“Let us continue to give our utmost commitment and selfless service in performing our mandated tasks and sustain the gains of peace and progress in our area of operations,” said Mina.

“The notable accomplishments we are achieving manifest the efforts of the Filipinos and their desire to attain peace and order in our communities. I also extend my gratitude to the former members and supporters of the CTG who have chosen the path of peace and return to the fold of the law in order to live their lives in peace, and the citizens who have cooperated and extended their assistance in making this possible,” Armed Forces Northern Luzon command head Lt. Gen. Ernesto C. Torres Jr. said.
