UST to resume college entrance exams for AY 2023-2024

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is set to resume the conduct of the UST Entrance Test (USTET) for the academic year (AY) 2023-2024.

As posted by The Varsitarian on Facebook, the university’s official student publication said that UST will resume the entrance examination as part of its college admission process.

“It's official: USTET to make comeback,” The Varsitarian said. The USTET, it added, will be “used for the admission of new students” from AY 2023 to 2024.

UST, on the other hand, has yet to issue an official announcement on the resumption of USTET for the next school year.

As posted on its website, UST did not administer the USTET in AY 2022-2023 “in consideration of the quarantine restrictions” that were in effect in the country.

UST also suspended USTET for AY 2021-2022.

The University used the UST Admission Rating (USTAR) for incoming students. The USTAR is a “score that will be computed from a number of parameters derived largely from the academic performance and record of the applicant.”

Aside from UST, the Ateneo de Manila University has also announced the return of the Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) early this month.

After it was suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ateneo opened its college admission application period for School Year (SY) 2023-2024 on Aug. 1.

The revived ACET, Ateneo said, is a “refreshed version of the examination seen to help assess applicants better.” The application process is fully online.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines (UP) has yet to make an announcement regarding the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) for AY 2023-2024.
