UP Manila med students receive scholarship from PH Red Cross
Twelve students of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine (UPCM) each received P300,000 worth of scholarship grants from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

The scholarship assistance starts this academic year (AY) 2022-2023 and three of the scholars will be supported by the organization for three years until they finish the Doctor of Medicine program in 2025, while nine will be supported for five years until they graduate in 2027.
The scholars have successfully met the criteria set by PRC and UPCM and they are obliged to maintain the academic requirements of the university and finish the degree within the prescribed period, PRC added.
PRC also noted that after becoming full-pledged doctors, they have to practice their profession in a public setting through PRC.
"The country needs doctors, especially now that the world is experiencing a pandemic. This is true not just in the Philippines but also in other countries," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said.
The students will receive P150,000 for the two semesters of each AY.
This will cover the scholars' "tuition, miscellaneous fee, laboratory fees, student fund, book allowance, uniform, Internet access, lodging, living allowance, transportation, health insurance, death and disability insurance, board exam review fee, and application fee to take the medical board," as per PRC.
The signing of the memorandum of agreement was held on Friday, Aug. 27 at the UPCM building in Pedro Gil St., Manila.
It was attended by the PRC Board of Governors, PRC Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla, UPM officials, scholars, and their parents.
