PH Red Cross responds to distressed passengers of Batangas ferry fire
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) responded to the distressed passengers of a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessel that caught fire in the anchorage area of Batangas port on Friday afternoon, Aug. 26.

The organization said that it has dispatched three ambulance units and one mobile clinic with 30 personnel who gave immediate medical care to the rescued passengers.
The PRC’s welfare team also provided free use of phones for passengers who wanted to contact their families; t-shirts and slippers were also distributed as per PRC.
PRC assured in a statement that it is ready to provide hot meals and conduct psychological first aid to the affected passengers.

The vessel that caught on fire, M/V Asia Philippines, left Calapan port in Oriental Mindoro at 3 p.m. and arrived at the Batangas port at 5:30 p.m. according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The fire started at 5:59 p.m and was put out at 10:15 p.m., the cause of the fire is still undetermined, PCG added.
All 47 passengers and 38 crew members were rescued but one 43-year-old woman was brought to the hospital due to injuries.
