Students from Visayas invited to US education fair in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – Students from the Visayas were invited to join the EducationUSA (EdUSA) Fair here Saturday, Aug. 27, that will enhance their dreams of studying in the United States.

Through EdUSA Fair, officials from government agencies and universities in the USA will provide free advising services to Filipinos who aspire to study in the US.

“We’re excited to kick off the EdUSA fair in Cebu. It’s been a long time coming and we know it’s important work. It was hard to do the fair during the pandemic. Now, we’re very happy to do it again,” John Groch, Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in Manila, said in a press briefing Thursday, Aug. 26.

The event at the Radisson Blu Hotel aims to help Filipinos find the right programs and universities for their undergraduate and graduate studies in the United States.

Free counseling on scholarship opportunities, financial aid options, campus life, and visa processing will also be available during the fair.

Groch said they chose Cebu as the kickoff venue for the fair in the hopes of attracting more students from the Visayas.

“Part of the reason, honestly, is we feel in term of studying in the US, the Visayas are underrepresented,” said Groch.

According to Groch, an average of 3,000 students from the Philippines get accepted to study in schools and universities in the United States.

Most of those who get the opportunity to study in the US come from the National Capital Region, Groch said.

“We would like to see more from the Visayas. Not just Cebu. We would like to see more activity here,” Groch said.

Interested students were advised to register for the fair through the EducationUSA Philippines official Facebook page.
