MMDA deploys 9 vehicles for 'Libreng Sakay' offer to students, commuters
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) dispatched nine vehicles on Friday, August 26, to beef up its “Libreng Sakay” or free ride program intended for students attending face-to-face classes and other commuters in Commonwealth, Quezon City.

MMDA acting Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said the agency deployed seven buses and two military trucks to transport commuters from Dona Carmen Avenue to Welcome Rotonda.
“The ‘Libreng Sakay’ program in Commonwealth is expected to benefit 500 to 600 passengers per day and we are mulling to continue it until December this year,” Dimayuga said.
The MMDA chief said that the free rides are available to all commuters in the area starting from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Monday to Friday.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte thanked the MMDA for the initiative, saying that it would be a “great help” especially to students who commute daily.
“I am very happy that transportation agencies are working hand-in-hand with the local government in easing the burden of the commuting public,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dimayuga also led the distribution og approximately 2,000 health kits to students in Batasan High School in Quezon City as part of the agency’s efforts for a safe back-to-school program. Each kit contains vitamins, alcohol, face mask, thermometer, mouth wash, and paracetamol.
He also revealed that the MMDA has penalized the private contractor of MRT-7 project construction located westbound of Commonwealth Avenue, particularly in Commonwealth Market, after its girder launch caused traffic gridlock in the area on Thursday.
