DAR sets sight on higher turnout of land distribution, agrarian justice

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) is eyeing more resilient programs for the next six years by reinforcing its three main goals – to speed up land distribution, ensure delivery of agrarian justice, and empower the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III on Friday, August 26, laid out the three priorities to address social justice and improve the lives of poor farmers through a land reform program.

Estrella said the Agrarian department is targeting 80 percent or 743,800 ARBs with improved productivity and increased income; 85 percent or 7,800 agrarian cooperatives with established and stable viable business operations managed by the ARBs; and 80 percent of 1,300 ARBs with improved business ecosystems and connectivity.

“In six years, aside from these three main goals, I will push the DAR to achieve self-sufficiency for the ARBs, create progressive agrarian cooperatives, and sustainable and resilient agrarian reform communities (ARCs),” Estrella noted.

“I am confident that with these priority goals, the department’s workforce will do its best to implement programs and projects that will hasten land distribution, delivery of support services, and improve the economic lives of farmers,” he added.

Officers of the agrarian department are currently conducting its first-semester performance assessment and planning conference in Tanza, Cavite. The three-day activity which started on Thursday, Aug. 25 up to Aug. 27, aims to identify challenges and finding ways to improve the delivery of services to farmers.

Estrella said the activity focuses on assessing DAR offices nationwide for their performance from January to June 2022, and finding more resilient strategies to beef up the execution of much better programs.
