3 vital roads in N. Luzon still blocked due to 'Florita' -- DPWH

At least three vital roads in Northern Luzon were still closed to traffic as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday, August 26, that it has yet to unclog landslide-hit areas of flooding, road cuts, and soil collapse in the aftermath of severe tropical storm “Florita.”

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said the department's Bureau of Maintenance has identified two road sections in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and one in Cagayan Valley (Region 2) that were still rough with mud due to erosion and overflowed rivers as of 6 a.m. Friday.

The Kennon Road was locked for safety reasons and travelers bound to Baguio City were advised to take Marcos Highway, Baguio - Bauang Road, or Asin - Nangalisan - San Pascual Road as alternate routes.

Motorists were also barred from traversing the Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road in Namaltugan, Calanasan, Apayao, which was closed due to road cuts and soil collapse. The clearing operation was ongoing as of press time.

In Cagayan Valley, the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Road, Cabagan Overflow Bridge in Isabela also remained close to all types of vehicles due to high water elevation. Motorists were advised to take Daang Maharlika-Cagayan Valley Road as an alternative route.
