Police foil kidnap attempt against Malaysian in Tarlac, five suspects arrested


TARLAC -- Police authorities here arrested five suspects who were trying to abduct a Malaysian national at around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Reports reaching the Philippine National Police said that the victim was driving his SUV along McArthur Highway in Brgy Anupul Bamban, Tarlac when another SUV suddenly blocked his way.

The suspects forcibly entered the Malaysian’s vehicle and tried to abduct him.

However, the duty security guards of the establishment where the victim works saw the commotion.

The guards immediately reported the incident to the Bamban Municipal Police Station which in turn immediately responded.

“Due to swift action of our PNP personnel, the victim was successfully rescued and the five suspects were apprehended,” said PNP Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

“The PNP will conduct further investigation to verify the motive and involvement of arrested personalities,” Azurin Jr. added.

The suspects were identified as Carmelito Damuya De la Cruz, 58; Alexander Meyer Sumagay, 40; John Rey Perez Valderama, 26, and Obet Endrada Tobias, 40, all Filipinos.

Also apprehended was Der Jien Chiw, 33, a Malaysian.

The arrested suspects are now under the custody of police for investigation and proper disposition.
