To ensure an adequate supply of rice in the country, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. tasked his economic team to plan the administration's steps on maintaining sufficient rice buffer stock in the country, Malacañang said.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said this after Marcos met with his economic team led by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the National Food Authority (NFA).
In a Facebook post, Angeles said the meeting tackled "vital steps in ensuring an adequate supply of rice stocks in the country."
She added that this was a way to help the farmers and an important step in the country's quest for food security.
"Ito ay isang mahalagang hakbang ng ating pamahalaan para sa food security ng bansa at sa kabuhayan ng ating mga magsasaka (This is an important step towards food security and to promote the livelihood of farmers)," Angeles said.
According to the Palace official, the proposed 2023 budget includes P12 billion for the NFA buffer stocking program. The amount will allow the government to buy 631.579 million metric tons of rice from local farmers.
Marcos is the concurrent secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
