Three people died while four others were injured during the onslaught of tropical storm "Florita" in Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday, Aug. 25.
The NDRRMC , however, only confirmed two deaths as weather disturbance-related--Rogelio Bernardo who was hit by an uprooted tree in Cagayan and a 56-year old man in Kalinga who suffered the same fate.
The third fatality in Kalinga, a 32-year old man from Camarines Sur who was reported to have died of drowning, is yet to be validated.
"Florita" caused widespread flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon and Western Visayas.
The flooding prompted Malacanan to suspend the classes and work in Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Tuesday (Aug. 23) and Wednesday (Aug. 24) .A number of local government units were also forced to suspend classes.
Based on the NDRRMC report, the weather disturbance affected 392 barangays and almost 12,000 families.
At least 21 roads and 13 bridges were also rendered impassable due to landslides and flooding, especially in northern part of Luzon.
At the height of "Florita" onslaught, 43 areas experienced power outage but the NDRMMC said most of them were already restored.
The NDRRMC report also disclosed that at least 30 houses were destroyed, most of them were partially damaged.
