The suspect was identified as David Orbito Matias, 28, a resident of Tam-awan, Baguio City.

Col. Damian Olsim, provincial director of Benguet Provincial Police Office, said Matias was arrested for stealing a bag belonging to a saleslady in a store.

While being investigated at the police station, Olsim said the police found three small plastic sachets of shabu weighing 0.12 grams, two rolled aluminum foils and a lighter from the suspect.

Meanwhile, the saleslady identified as Novie Lantaen Maggay who owned the bag stolen by the suspect, told the police that he (suspect) entered a dry goods store around 12:40 in the afternoon to inquire about a certain item.

Maggay said she went to her boss to inform that the customer (the suspect) wanted some discount for what he was buying.

But when she looked back, Maggay said she saw the suspect take her shoulder bag containing a cellphone, a charger, assorted ladies accessories, important papers and P9,834 cash, and quickly ran away.

Maggay said she immediately chased him with a shout that caught the attention of a police officer of the Highway Patrol Group in the area who quickly caught the suspect.

The arresting police brought him to the police station for the investigation that led to the discovery of shabu.
