K-pop girl group TWICE member tests positive for Covid-19 


A member of K-pop girl group TWICE has tested positive for Covid-19 as South Korea continues to experience a surge in cases due to the Omicron subvariant BA.5.

“We are sad to inform you that TWICE member Jihyo has tested positive for COVID-19 antigen testing on August 24th,” JYP Entertainment, the group’s agency, announced on Aug. 24.

It added, “Jihyo tested positive for self-diagnosis kit at 10:30 AM and is currently quarantined, following the guidelines from health department after testing positive for Covid-19 antigen testing.”

“We apologize for causing concerns among TWICE's fans and related people. We will prioritize our artist's health and put our best effort for her quick and healthy recovery,” it said.

South Korea recorded 139,339 new Covid-19 cases on Aug. 24 and 150,258 new cases on Aug. 23 to bring the total confirmed cases to 22.58 million.

The average daily cases from Aug. 18 to 24 totaled 129,463 or 250.71 per 100,000 population.
