Aclan in stable condition after suffering stroke

Filipino-American Bishop Alejandro “Alex” Aclan, the auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, was pronounced stable on Monday.

CBCP News said according to Angelus news service, the prelate remains in intensive care unit at an area hospital since the stroke on Aug. 20.

In an Aug. 22 email to clergy, the archdiocese said the 71-year-old bishop is in “good spirits, but very tired.”

“He is very thankful for all your prayers,” the letter read.

Archbishop José Gomez also assured their prayers for Bishop Aclan’s fast and complete healing.

Bishop Aclan took charge of the archdiocese’s San Fernando Pastoral Region after becoming auxiliary bishop in 2019.

Born and raised in Manila, he left the country for California in 1982 as an immigrant.

He entered seminary formation and was ordained a priest of the archdiocese in 1993.

Aclan is the second Filipino-American priest to be named bishop in the U.S. after Bishop Oscar Solis of Salt Lake City.

Bishop Aclan was in the Philippines last month for a vacation and met Filipino bishops gathered for their plenary assembly in Tagaytay City.
