By Jel Santos
Repairs are still ongoing at irrigation systems affected by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that jolted Ilocos and Cordillera Region, National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Administrator Benny Antiporda said on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

"As of now, ongoing pa rin iyong ginagawang repairs but based on the information, patapos na rin po iyong mga ginagawa – we only given them 45 days to finish this (Well, as of now, the repairs are still ongoing but based on the information, the repairs are nearing completion– we only gave them 45 days to finish this),” he said during a "Laging Handa" briefing on Tuesday, August 23.
“But the good news is diretso po ang delivery ng tubig natin sa ating mga magsasaka (the delivery of water to our farmers is continuous).”
Amid several disasters in the nation, Antiporda assured the public that there will be an ample supply of water.
Antiporda said the NIA will launch "NIA Para sa Bayan," which seeks to offer clean water supply in diverse irrigable areas and regions in the country.
"Its first objective is the optimization of water. Ito po 'yung lahat na pwedeng paggamitan ng tubig ay gagawin po natin (Its first objective is the optimization of water. This is everything that can be used for water, we will do it),” the NIA administrator said.
