'Extraordinary Lawyer Woo' star Kang Tae-oh makes his mom quit job after drama's success

The Korean drama “Extraordinary Lawyer Woo,” which aired on channel ENA and streamed on Netflix, brought fame and fortune to its stars.

For actor Kang Tae-oh, “Extraordinary Lawyer Woo” became a vehicle to garner popularity and to help his family.

Kang Tae-oh played the role of Lee Jun-ho, who became the love interest of Woo Young-woo (played by Park Eun-bin) in the drama.

Through the success of the drama, Kang Tae-oh was able to persuade his mom to quit her job.

“My goal was to make my mother quit her job before I went to the military, and now that dream has finally come true. I’m proud to be able to go to the military with peace of mind!” Kang Tae-oh said in an interview with Korean media outlet Chosun.

He added, “Thanks for the love for ‘Extraordinary Lawyer Woo,” I was able to give my parents a gift that I have never been able to do before.” His first gift to his parents was remodeling their house.

In addition, he was able to make his mom quit her job and provided funds for rehabilitation treatment for her back.

He said her mom suffered from a bad back and was working at a sauna by giving out locker keys to guests.

“She had a bad back so she used to sit in a chair all the time. I recently told my mom, 'Stop working and get rehab.' It was my wish before I went to the military, and it feels so good to be able to achieve it,” said Kang Tae-oh.

The actor reenacted the scene when he told his mom to quit.

“Stop it, mom. Stop, okay? I'll pay for the living expenses, so stop!” he told his mom.

Kang Tae-oh also donated 20 million won (about $15,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to help victims of the recent torrential rains.

He is set to enlist in the military in September and before that, he will hold an online fan meeting titled “TikTok Stage Connect: SweeTaeOh” on Aug. 31.
