#WalangPasok: Classes on the first day of school suspended due 'Florita'

Due to inclement weather caused by tropical storm Florita, several local government units (LGUs) have declared suspension of classes on Monday, Aug. 22, which was also the first day of classes for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 in public schools.

Tuguegarao City suspended classes at all levels (kindergarten, elementary, high school, and tertiary) in both public and private schools.
The provincial government of Cagayan also suspended classes at kindergarten and elementary levels, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In Alcala and Baggao, classes were suspended from kindergarten to high school.
The local governments of Daraga and Polangui in Albay also suspended classes at all levels.
In Guinobatan, classes at all levels were likewise suspended due to the threat of flooding. Classes in elementary to high school were also suspended in Oas town.
Based on its 11 a.m. weather advisory on Aug. 22, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) “moderate to heavy with at times intense rains” may prevail over Quezon, Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
The weather bureau also noted that the southwest monsoon (habagat) which was enhanced by “Florita” is also expected to bring rains over the western sections of southern Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours.
