PCG offers free bus rides to students on opening of classes

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed three of its service buses to ferry students to their schools for free on the first day of face-to-face classes on Monday, August 22.

The deployment of the PCG buses started at 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. from Quezon City to Manila, according to PCG Commandant, Admiral Artemio Abu.

From Quezon City Hall, the Coast Guard buses travelled to the University Belt in Espana, Manila and Luneta Park to transport students before it went back to Quezon City.

Aside from students, the PCG buses also accommodated school personnel and other regular passengers who were waiting for a ride when the service vehicles passed by them

At least 200 students, workers, and regular passengers benefitted from the free bus ride program of the PCG on Monday morning.

Another round of deployment was scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate students who will go home from their schools.

“This is our simple way to help our students as we open the School Year 2022-2023. We feel how hard it is for them to shell out money due to the recent fare hike. Through this initiative, we want to somehow support our youth by lessening their expenses on the first day of classes,” Abu said in Filipino.
