BACOLOD CITY – A one-day-old baby boy was buried alive by his parents in a public cemetery in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental Sunday, Aug. 21.

He was rescued but died in a hospital the following day, Monday, Aug. 22.
Police Capt. Ryan Villasario, Pulupandan police chief, said the parents of the baby went to the cemetery Sunday morning and brought a box where the baby was kept.
The parents told a caretaker in the cemetery that they will bury their baby because he was already dead.
But they did not disclose the baby's cause of death nor opened the box for the caretaker to confirm their claim.
Villasario said the parents even witnessed the burial of their baby.
However, three hours later, the caretaker heard someone crying from the tomb.
He broke the tomb and when he checked, the baby was crying, and was already pale and turning purple.
The caretaker rushed the baby to a hospital where he passed away Monday morning, according to Villasario.
Villasario said they are now checking if the parents' allegations were true or if the baby was a victim of unwanted pregnancy.
If there's a probable cause, we will file a case of infanticide against the parents, he added.
Villasario said the parents of the baby are at large but police have identified them. However, police refused to name them pending the investigation.
