Cagayan governor suspends classes due to ‘Florita’


TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Gov. Manuel Mamba suspended classes from preschool to elementary in this province Monday, Aug. 22, due to tropical depression “Florita.”

THE 1st Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Police Capt. Tristan John Zambale are on standby and has prepared search, rescue, and retrieval equipment for ‘Florita.’

Mayor Maila Ting-Que here, accompanied by city councilors, is visiting schools to ensure the safety of the students.

Personnel of the 1st Cagayan Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Police Capt. Tristan John Zambale conducted information dissemination regarding disaster preparedness and inspected search, rescue, and retrieval equipment inventory in preparation for Florita.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hoisted tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 in Northern Luzon as Florita approached.

PAGASA said light to moderate with at times heavy rains are likely to be experienced over the whole Cagayan River basin.

The State weather bureau said that there is possible flooding due to accumulation or ponding of rainwater in low-lying and riverside areas and flashfloods or landslides in mountainside areas.

Face-to-face classes in the province resumed Monday after two years of blended learning due to the pandemic.
