GEN. LUNA, Quezon -- The local government unit (LGU) in collaboration with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) distributed some 5000 dwarf seedlings of coconut in this town on Monday, Aug. 22.

Gen. Luna Mayor Matt Erwin Florido, Provincial Coconut Development Manager and Division Chief Lanie Lapitan, Municipal Agriculturist Jun Pedragoza, Kaanib president and barangay chairman Michael D. Angeles, and the PCA General Luna Office witnessed the distribution of seedlings to the beneficiaries.
Florido said that the distribution is part of his administration’s goal to restore vitality to the coconut industry in the town.
Dwarf coconuts are fitted to grow on the flat surface or areas. The dwarf coconut will bear fruit after only three years.
The coconut variety is said to bear medium-sized fruit but its meat is thick. The dwarf coconut also bears more fruit compared to the tall variety.
Florido added that not all municipalities have that kind of program.
“Gen. Luna is lucky because we have already identified a lot that could be used for a nursery,” Florido said.
