Woman, son killed in Ormoc fire

TACLOBAN CITY – A woman and her son died in a fire that hit their house in Purok Dahlia, Barangay Cogon, Ormoc City before dawn Sunday, August 21.

The victims were identified as Belen and Lyndon Mendoza.

The fire which started at around 2:26 a.m. also affected the houses of siblings Marilyn and Randy Montalban made of light materials.

Belen’s body was found in the kitchen while her son Lyndon in his room after the fire was put out at 4 a.m.

Authorities said the victims tried but failed to escape from their house because their doors were locked.

Arson probers are still investigating the cause of the fire which caused P1.8 million in damage to property.
