The Quezon City government said on Sunday, Aug. 21, that the 158 public elementary and high schools in the city are all set for the resumption of classes on Monday, Aug. 22.
“Patapos pa lang ang klase noong nakaraang school year, naghahanda na tayo para sa darating na pasukan. Tinitiyak natin na may sapat na personnel at kagamitan ang ating mga paaralan para masiguro ang kaligtasan ng ating mga estudyante at mga guro sa pagbabalik-eskwela ( Even before the classes last school year ended, we are getting ready for the upcoming opening of classes. We make sure that our schools have enough personnel and equipment to ensure the safety of our students and teachers when they return to school),” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
The local government said there are a total of 440, 821 learners enrolled in the public schools according to the data of the Schools Division Office (SDO) as of Aug. 20.
The SDO said that out of the total number of QC public elementary and high schools, 81 schools will implement five days of in-person classes, while the remaining 77 will initially impose blended learning modality.
It added schools under the blended learning mode will be given until Nov. 2, to transition to in-person classes in accordance to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Order No. 34, Series of 2022.
The local government said the “Brigada Eskwela” was also conducted to ensure that the school facilities are ready. School supervisors will also be stationed in the schools on Monday.
The Division of City Schools-Quezon City also earlier held a series of meetings with school heads, supervised the conduct of simulation classes, and conducted parents' orientation per school to assure them that the students will receive school supplies and tablets, it addef.
Members of the city’s Law and Order Cluster will also be present in each schools to ensure that minimun health and safety protocols are observed.
A total of 560 traffic enforcers from Task Force and Traffic Management (TFTTM) will also be deployed along the city’s major roads and in critical intersections to control the traffic flow.
They are also tasked to ensure that commuting students will be given 20 percent discount when riding public transportation vehicles.
The local government said the Department of Public Order and Safety are visiting schools to remind principals on enforcing health protocols, and prohibition of sale and distribution of sugary foods in accordance with City Ordinance SP-2579, S-2017.
Selected schools have also set up Covid-19 vaccination sites through the Department of Health’s (DOH) Pinas Lakas program to make inoculations accessible for the students and parents.
Covid-19 health kits for students are also being prepared by the city government in case of infection within schools.
