DSWD distributes P4.4 M worth of educational assistance to 1,425 beneficiaries in Cordillera region


BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera distributed P4,445,00 to 1,425 beneficiaries on Saturday (Aug. 20) and Sunday (Aug. 21) under the agency’s educational assistance in the Cordillera region.

Applicants for educational assistance are thoroughly screened by social workers from the agency's seven field offices in the region.

Of the total amount, P1,708,000 went to the province of Kalinga for its 561 beneficiaries – the highest in the region. Benguet followed with 251 students who received P863,000.

Abra came in third with 237 beneficiaries (P741,000), followed by Apayao with 99 beneficiaries (P280,000), and Ifugao 112 beneficiaries (P433,000).

The eligible students received P1,000 to P4,000 depending on their grade level.

The Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation or AICS is the agency's program to provide additional financial assistance for students who are in need.

Applicants for the program are assessed by the social workers. Those who are qualified are informed through call or text from the agency.
