China mauls Korea at the start of AVC Cup

China made short work of a young Korean squad, 25-9, 25-8, 25-9, at the start of the 2022 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City Sunday, Aug. 21.

The Chinese crew hardly broke a sweat in demolishing their hapless rivals composed of high school students, attacking at all angles to notch its first win in Pool A.

Zhuang Yushan paced China with 13 points highlighted by 11 kills and two aces while Zhou Yetong chipped in 11 points built on seven attacks and four blocks.

China dictated the tempo throughout with their all-around game by firing 38 kills, 10 blocks and nine aces.

Korea, whose players averaged between 16 to 17 years old, for its part, managed only 16 measly attacks and one ace.

So dominant were the Chinese that they led 11-3 at the start of the second set and ballooned it to 21-7.

The Koreans had brief flashes of brilliance anchored on Choi Hosun, the team’s best scorer, but the Chinese were too much to handle.

Choi only managed seven points – all coming from attacks – as her teammates scored between one to three points.
