Thousands troop to Bacolod to get DSWD educational aid

BACOLOD CITY – Thousands of Bacolodnons and Negrenses lined up as early as 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central here to avail of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) educational assistance for indigent students Saturday, Aug. 20.

A LONG line of people is observed at the Department of Social Welfare and Development educational assistance payout in Bacolod City, Saturday, Aug. 20.

Some of the students accompanied by their parents from different cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental traveled here to ensure that they are the first avail of the educational assistance.

However, some students and parents got irked because of the system in the release of the numbers.

Pacit Tero, head of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), said they are releasing numbers for the first 300, and another batch of 300, until all can be accommodated based on their available budget.

More than 270,000 students were enrolled in the province for this school year or 80.65 percent of the target of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Negros Occidental, while DepEd-Bacolod has a total of 107,000 enrollees as of Aug. 20.
