QC LGU ready to assist DSWD distribute next batches of educational cash aid

The local government of Quezon City said they are “willing and ready” to support the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the distribution of educational cash assistance after around 1,000 parents and students crowded the agency’s main office in Barangay Batasan Hills Saturday morning, Aug. 20.

In a press statement, the local government said they plan to coordinate with the DSWD to implement a more organized queueing system for the beneficiaries.

Long lines and packed crowds occupied the IBP Road in front of the DSWD’s main office.

The local government dispatched personnel to help manage the crowd and control traffic in the area.

Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS, Task Force Disiplina (TFD), and Task Force on Transport and Traffic Management (TFTTM) were deployed by the local government to help control the crowd and manage the traffic in the area.

In a press interview at the main office, DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo said they are “recalibrating” their method of implementation and adjusting it based on the situation.

“Siguro po next weekend...ibababa na po namin sa munisipyo...under the supervision of DSWD personnel (Maybe next weekend, we will ask help from the city halls under the supervision of DSWD personnel),” he said.

The distribution of the educational cash assistance by the DSWD began on Aug, 20.

It aimed to help indigent students buy and prepare school supplies needed for face-to-face classes on Monday, Aug. 22.

The DSWD financial aid distribution will occur every Saturday from Aug. 20 to Sept. 24.
