Las Piñas commemorates 1st death anniversary of former Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar


The Las Piñas City government commemorated the first death anniversary of “Ama ng Las Piñas” (father of Las Piñas), former Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar, Saturday (Aug. 20).

The city government paid tribute to the accomplishments of Aguilar who served as city mayor for 18 years.

In a post on Public Information (PIO) Facebook page, the city government said Mayor Nene, known as “Ama ng Las Piñas” for his fatherly acts of service for the citizens of the city, initiated several programs in the field of education and sustainable development through tuition subsidies and livelihood training.

It was also during Aguilar’s term that the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Finance proclaimed Las Piñas as one of the country’s best-managed cities.

Las Piñas also received a United Nations Award for Environmental Protection.

Mayor Nene passed away at the age of 74 due to heart ailment at St. Luke's Medical Center in Global City.

Mayor Nene’s wife, Imelda Aguilar, the current chief executive of the city, is continuing the services initiated by her husband.
