2,884 Cordillera residents remain in evacuation centers, aftershocks still being felt in Abra

BAGUIO CITY – A total of 2,844 individuals belonging to 894 families have remained in various evacuation centers since the magnitude-7 earthquake struck northern Luzon.

In a report released by the Department of Health-Cordillera on August 1, out of the total number, 674 families or 2,009 individuals are in the province of Abra. Most of their houses were damaged by the earthquake.

Abra was the epicenter of the earthquake, and the province continues to experience aftershocks.

A total of 172 families or 664 individuals are still in various evacuation centers in Kalinga; 38 families or 133 individuals in Mt. Province; 10 families or 38 individuals in the province of Benguet.

According to the DOH-Cordillera, health personnel are monitoring those in evacuation centers in the region to ensure that their health is protected against disease, especially Covid-19.

Health officials are also monitoring 12,294 families or 44,993 families from the outside the evacuation center to provide them with the appropriate medicine they need for illness.

Apayao, Ifugao and Baguio City were not significantly affected by the earthquake.

It was also reported that 303 were injured in the Abra earthquake; 44 in Mt. Province; 22 in Benguet; 16 in Kalinga; 9 in Baguio City and 6 in Ifugao, while a total of nine people died.

Out of a total of 987 health facilities in the region, 923 are functional which includes government hospitals-12; government infirmaries-31; private hospitals-12; regional health unit's-89 and Barangay Health Station-779, while 44 are partially functional and 20 are non-functional.
