Son of Negros mayor to face consequences of buy-bust arrest

BACOLOD CITY – Calatrava, Negros Occidental Mayor Marilyn Era said Friday, Aug. 18, said her son, Nestor Jr., should face the consequences of his arrest in a buy-bust operation in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Wednesday, Aug. 17.

“Kabalo na na siya kinsa maayo, and dili maayo (He already know what’s right and wrong),” Mayor Era said.

Police nabbed Nestor, 40, with two others in Barangay 6, San Carlos City. Seized from them were suspected shabu worth P102,000.

Mayor Era said that despite her reminders, her son insisted on taking illegal drugs. “We have to accept the truth,” she added.

Despite his arrest, Mayor Era said that she is willing to help her son. “Ang aku-a lang, kung may mabulig ko sa iya, tabangan ko siya kay anak ko siya (If there’s something I can help, I will help him because he’s my son),” she said.

Police have filed charges for illegal possession of dangerous drugs against Nestor Jr. after they seized a sachet of suspected shabu from him.

Chito Atienza, 46, the subject of the operation, and Rosalia Nemenzo, 60, are facing charges for violation of Section 5 (sale of illegal drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in relation to Section 26 (conspiracy), and illegal possession of dangerous drugs.

Police Lt. Ruby Aurita, spokesperson of the San Carlos City Police Station, said the trio also tested positive in a drug test.
