Senate to go on total lockdown

The entire Senate building will be under a total lockdown on Monday, Aug. 22.

Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri adopted this measure after seven senators so far have tested Covid-19 positive ‘’and several others exposed due to their staff members and members of the secretariat catching the virus".

The infection started last week in the current 19th Congress.

Hit by the Covid-19 virus were Senate Majority Leader Emmanuel ‘’Joel’’ Villanueva, Alan Peter Cayetano, Imee Marcos, Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Joseph Victor ‘’JV’’ Ejercito, and Nancy Binay.

The sixth and seventh senator to report that they were Covid-19 positive this morning were Ejercito and Binay.

As a result, Zubiri instructed the secretariat to conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of all Senate offices.

‘’For this reason, there will be a total lockdown of our Senate building and all Senate employees shall work from home and need not report to the Senate on Monday, 22),’’ he said.

‘’Senate sessions will resume on Tuesday, 23 August 2022,’’ he stressed.

‘’Please stay safe and healthy everyone. Together we shall fight this Virus and continue to deliver government service as efficiently as possible. Maraming salamat po (Thank you very much)," Zubiri said in an advisory released this morning.
