Marcos' first state visits to Indonesia, Singapore set for Sept. 4-7

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will be going to Indonesia and Singapore for his maiden state visits in September.

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles confirmed on Friday, Aug. 19, that the President will be visiting Indonesia on Sept. 4 to 6 and Singapore on Sept. 6 to 7.

"Wala pa tayo masyadong detalye pero kino-confirm na tuloy po ito (There are not much detail yet but we are confirming that this will push through)," Angeles said in a press briefing.

Marcos' visit to the United States, on the other hand, is in the works as the President expressed his intention to go.

"As for the visit to the United States, it is still being worked out, although nagsabi ang Pangulo na (the President said) he will be going," she added.

In May, Singaporean President Halimah Yacob invited Marcos to make a state visit in the country to discuss the long-standing relationship of the Philippines and Singapore.

In July, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said Marcos was being advised to make his first official travel abroad in the Southeast Asia region, including Indonesia and Singapore.

Meanwhile, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who visited the country in June, pronounced that Marcos is welcome to visit the US, given his diplomatic immunity as the head of state.

A contempt order against the President has prevented him from traveling to the foreign country for years.
