Lufthansa Technik PH opens new hangar

After nearly two years of delay, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) will inaugurate its new 9,000-square meter Hangar 1A in Pasay City this Friday afternoon, August 19, in LTP’s hub at the MacroAsia Special Economic Zone of the Manila airport amid growing demand for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MROs) services.

LTP's new Hangar 1A adds three lines to its existing seven base maintenance lines in the capital region and will serve rising demand for aircraft MRO services as the economy recovers and travel demand surges anew.

Construction of the hangar, initially set for completion in September 2020, slowed down when the pandemic triggered a travel slump amid global border restrictions.

“This milestone for LTP on our 22nd year in business is very special," said LTP President and CEO Elmar Lutter.

"It marks our transition from some of the most difficult times we’ve faced as a company due to pandemic, to this phase of gradual recovery," he explained.

"This is concrete, tangible proof that we are seeing clearer skies ahead.”

The new facility is expected to add 20 percent to LTP’s capacity and employ at least 275 more personnel, contributing to government efforts to arrest unemployment wrought by the extended health crisis.

Hangar 1A will provide base maintenance for various commercial aircraft of short- to long-range capacities, including Airbus jets A320, A330, A380, and the Boeing 777.

“With the opening of Hangar1A, LTP is responding to a renewed demand for aircraft maintenance as travel picks up and planes around the world are no longer grounded," according to Rainer Janke, VP for Marketing & Sales.

"We are excited to provide our premium service to our clients and help ensure flight safety in the new normal,” he added.

Strategically located at Manila’s main aerodrome, LTP has capacity to service aircraft coming to and from major international hubs such as Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong.

A joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and MacroAsia Corporation, LTP is a globally certified provider of aircraft MRO services qualified by the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency, the United States FAA and other airworthiness authorities from around the world.

It currently employs more than 2,600 Filipinos across its facilities in Manila, Clark in Pampanga, Cebu, Davao, Kalibo in Aklan, and Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista and Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual are attending this afternoon's inauguration of the new hangar.
