Killing of retired college dean in Nueva Ecija solved; suspect arrested, charged with murder


SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija -- The case of a retired college dean who was killed by her grandson is considered solved following the arrest of the suspect and the filing of a murder case in the provincial prosecutor in this province.

Police Staff Sergeant Reagan A. Barlis, investigator–on-case, said that the suspect, who is 16-year old, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 15.

He was charged with murder at the provincial prosecutor of Nueva Ecija on the same day.

Based on the information from the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), Virginia del Rosario, 68, a resident of Barangay Castellano, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija was found dead in the cargo compartment of her SUV.

The vehicle was then parked inside their residence in Barangay Castellano.

The discovery of the decomposing body of the victim was confirmed by the barangay officials who reported the matter to the local police of San Leonardo.

Police cordoned the crime scene as SOCO worked on the area.

The authorities also did a review of the CCTV footage at nearby establishments.

Police discovered during an in-depth investigation that Andrew was the only companion of the victim prior to the incident.

The suspect was accompanied by his uncle, Rommel Puno, as he appeared at the police station and made his confession.

Andrew admitted stabbing his grandmother on July 20, 2022 in the afternoon, and placed her grandmother’s body in the cargo compartment and left.

The Kitchen knife used in the killing has been recovered by the SOCO team through the guidance of said confession.

The investigators said that based on the suspect’s confession, the suspect got mad as his grandma was strongly opposed to his affair with his minor girlfriend.
