The Philippine embassy in Washington has launched the publication The Philippines Matters for America/America Matters for the Philippines, capping the yearlong celebration of the 75th year anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the US.

“There is no doubt that the Philippines matters for the United States and the United States matters for the Philippines,” said Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel G. Romualdez said in his remarks, quoting President Marcos, then only president-elect, who said the Philippines’ partnership with the US “is not just a memory but a part of us” to Wendy Sherman, deputy secretary of state, when they met in Manila. “This is true not only in terms of our government-to-government relations but in the close ties between our two peoples,” added Romualdez.

The Philippine ambassador underscored that the Philippines-US relationship has stood the test of time and remains relevant amid new and emerging challenges. He expressed confidence in a stronger and expansive partnership in the years to come.

The East-West Center in Washington partnered with the embassy of the Philippines and the US embassy in Manila to come up with an infographics project that sums up important aspects of the bilateral relations. These include security, trade and investments, health and environment, development assistance, culture, people-to-people ties, among others.

The Philippines’ partnership with the US ‘is not just a memory, but a part of us,’ according to President Marcos.
