Gun ban in Davao Region for Kadayawan Festival on

DAVAO CITY (PNA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has suspended the permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) from 12:01 a.m. Aug. 14 to midnight Aug. 22 in the Davao Region for the celebration of the 37th Kadayawan sa Davao Festival.

In a statement Thursday, Aug. 18, the Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-11) said only members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms.

“This is to ensure that the activity will be free from firearm-related incidents for the safety of the populace, as well as of the local and foreign tourists,” PRO-11 said.

PRO-11 added that the directive shall be implemented in consonance with the concept of managing police operations in close coordination with the AFP, other LEAs, and local government units.

“Likewise, you are directed to fully disseminate the suspension of PTCFORs in your area of responsibility through broadcast, print, and social media.”

Major activities of the Kadayawan include the opening of the festival on Aug. 15; Hiyas sa Kadayawan (Aug. 17), Indak-indak sa Kadalanan (Aug. 20), and Pamulak Festival (Aug. 21).

At least 11,459 security and safety personnel from the different law enforcement agencies were deployed in this city for the entire celebration.

Police Brig. Gen. Benjamin Silo Jr., PRO-11 director, called the public for cooperation and participation in their implemented security measures for the festivity.

“If there are any suspicious things you might have observed such as unattended baggage or pack bags, I encourage everyone to report it to the nearest police station or any security forces deployed on the ground,” he said.

Silo also encouraged those attending the activity to follow health protocols at all times.
