In line with its ISO 50001:2018 certification for Energy Management System (EnMS), telecom and digital solutions giant Globe will scale up on its deployment of energy-saving technologies and equipment as well as in embracing green energy solutions so it can fully concretize its net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by mid-century.

The company explained that “the EnMS will help implement Globe’s climate ambition of transitioning to a low-carbon operation by laying out a framework for carbon reduction and operational efficiency.”

Congruent to that strategy, Globe said it will “pursue alternative energy sources and energy-saving technology and equipment in its operations.”

The Ayala-led firm qualified that “energy-efficient designs will be incorporated to improve monitoring and performance across all facilities and contribute to the company’s operational energy efficiency targets and objectives.”

As highlighted by Rizza Maniego-Eala, chief finance officer and chief risk officer of Globe, “we wanted to ensure energy efficiency, responsible energy procurement, and improved equipment utilization in our facilities.”

At this stage, she conveyed that “we are proud to successfully meet all the requirements and complete the certification audit by BSI Singapore.”

Relative to its EnMS certification, Globe emphasized that such covers its key facilities – including its corporate offices, data centers, core network, cell sites, and Globe Stores.

The firm indicated that it also went through an energy audit, hence, it was able to identify opportunities for improvement “to ensure that targets at the facility-level are met,” including those on upgrading of current equipment or installing new ones “to improve energy efficiency within its operations.”

The company noted that the EnMS certification will likewise serve as part of its compliance to the prescription of Republic Act 11285 or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, which primarily requires organizations and enterprises to institutionalize systematic energy management practices through the chain of their operations.

Globe expounded “the implementation of an EnMS facilitates proactive stakeholder engagement to collectively identify energy and cost-saving opportunities,” adding that “the management system’s systematic approach will lead to continuous energy efficiency improvements against baseline and towards identified targets.”

The Ayala firm specified that the enforcement of its EnMS “is governed by representatives from relevant Globe departments who head the program implementation.”

In addition, the company had designated a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and trained Energy Conservation Officers to support its compliance requirements.
