Construction worker nabbed for hitting, pointing gun at woman in Taguig

The police arrested a construction worker for hitting and pointing a gun at a woman in Taguig on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Taguig police chief Robert Baesa identified the suspect as John Lloyd Oliva, 21, who is now facing physical injury and grave threat charges.

According to the police, the incident happened in Barangay South Daang Hari in Taguig. An argument erupted between Oliva and the victim, identified as Mary Joy Manguera, 24.

Oliva allegedly hit Manguera in different parts of her body and pulled out a replica gun and pointed it at her head and said, “Gusto mo patayin na kita ngayon? (Do you want me to kill you now?)”

Manguera went to Taguig police Substation 8 to ask for assistance that resulted in Oliva’s arrest and confiscation of a replica 9mm pistol.

Under Section 35 of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), “An imitation firearm used in the commission of a crime shall be considered a real firearm as defined in this Act and the person who committed the crime shall be punished in accordance with this Act: Provided, That injuries caused on the occasion of the conduct of competitions, sports, games, or any recreation activities involving imitation firearms shall not be punishable under this Act.”

“The rapid response time of our men not only boosts crime detection but also reduces the time it takes to catch the offender,” said Southern Police District acting director Col. Kirby John Kraft.
