BIR files P18-M tax evasion case vs. Cavite firm

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed a tax evasion case against a Cavite general merchandising store over allegedly unpaid tax debts amounting to P18 million.

In a formal criminal complaint submitted to the Department of Justice, BIR Deputy Commissioner for Legal Group Marissa O. Cabreros identified the respondent as Newlintay Trading Corporation of Trece Martirez City.

The company president identified as a certain Stanley P. Go was also included in the charge sheet.

The wholesale and retail firm was cited for alleged refusal to settle the 2017 tax debts amounting to P18 million.

BIR records showed that the firm, which was engaged in the importation and distribution of household goods and other consumer items, ignored notices to settle the accounts.

"The respondents' continued refusal to pay the long overdue deficiency taxes constitute willful failure to pay taxes due to the government," Cabreros said.

This is the third tax evasion case filed by the BIR under the administration of Commissioner Lilia Catris Guillermo.
