No work in QC offices on Quezon Day, Aug. 19

Public and private offices in Quezon City will be closed on Friday, Aug. 19, in commemoration of the 144th birth anniversary of former President Manuel Luis Quezon, the local government announced on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Under Republic Act No. 6741 enacted in 1989, Quezon Day was declared as a special-non working holiday in the city, as well as in Quezon Province and Aurora.

The local government said that its free Q City Bus Service operations will also temporarily be suspended on Friday.

The operations of essential services such as law enforcement, traffic management, fire protection, heath and rescue and disaster response, will continue.

The former president established Quezon City in 1939, aiming to replace Manila as the capital of the Philippines, according to the Department of Environment and National Resource - Environmental Management Bureau (ncr.emb.gov.ph).

The city served as the country’s capital from 1948-1976.
