Marcos meets Chinese envoy; stronger PH-China ties eyed

The Philippines and China are looking to strengthen their partnership even further as President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian in Malacañang on August 17.

In a Facebook post, Marcos said the Chinese envoy paid him a courtesy call where they discussed how to improve the relationship between the two Asian countries.

He did not disclose what they discussed during their meeting but said he was happy that Huang visited him.

"We are very grateful for the visit, and we look forward to further strengthening the relationship between China and the Philippines for the benefit of both our peoples," the President wrote.

Huang, meanwhile, said honored to meet Marcos.

"Grateful for the warm welcome and conversation," he said.

The Chinese official talked with President Marcos about how the Chinese and Filipinos would benefit from strengthened ties between the Philippines and China.

Huang expressed confidence that this could be achieved under the guidance of Marcos and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"We exchanged views on further strengthening the relationship between China and the Philippines for the benefit of both our peoples," he said.

"I'm fully confident that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Marcos, China-Philippines relationship will further grow and achieve more benefits in the years to come," he added.
