K-pop artist Kang Daniel tests positive for Covid-19, cancels Japan performance

K-pop artist Kang Daniel has canceled his performance in Japan after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Kang Daniel was scheduled to fly from Incheon International Airport on Aug. 19 for the “Summer Sonic 2022” shows in Osaka on Aug. 20 and Tokyo on Aug. 21 but canceled it.

His agency, Konnect Entertainment, said on Aug. 18 that “after conducting the pre-departure PCR tests for his Summer Sonic appearance on the 17th, he was confirmed to have Covid-19.”

It said Kang Daniel’s route of infection was suspected to be the stage practice from Aug. 15 to 16. Previously, Kang Daniel received a negative result in PCR tests he conducted from Aug. 12 to 14.

The agency added that Kang Daniel has received his third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and has no symptoms to date.

The Summer Sonic 2022 website announced that Kang Daniel will be unable to perform due to his Covid-19 infection.

South Korea is experiencing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases. It recorded 180,803 new cases on Aug. 17 and 178,574 on Aug. 18.
