DepEd records 22.5 million enrollees for SY 2022-2023

Four days before classes for the incoming school year start next week, the Department of Education (DepEd) has recorded 22.5 million learners from both public and private schools.

Latest data from the Learner Information System (LIS) as of Aug. 18, Thursday showed that the number of registered learners has reached a total of 22,517,657.

Of this number, DepEd said that 22,404,719 students are enrolled in formal education while 112,938 were enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program.

Based on DepEd’s latest data, 19, 726, 436 learners enrolled in public schools; 2, 603, 929 in private schools; and 74, 354 in State Universities and Colleges / Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs).

The highest number of enrollees was recorded in Region IV-A with 3,236,942 students followed by Region III with 2,485,507, and Metro Manila with 2,384,044.

The enrollment in public school started on July 25 and will end on Aug. 22 which is also the first day of classes.

As of Aug. 17, DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said that there are no instructions yet to extend the enrollment period.

DepEd said that the target enrollment for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 is 28.6 million.

Meanwhile, Poa also reiterated DepEd’s appeal to parents and guardians to not wait until the last day of enrollment and register the children as soon as possible.

“Yung mga hindi pa nag-e-enroll, kung pwede, mag-enroll na para mabigyan yung DepEd ng paghahanda (Those who have not yet enrolled, if possible, enroll now so that DepEd can prepare),” Poa said in a Manila Bulletin interview.

“Kung hindi natin alam kung ilan ang papasok sa isang classroom, hindi rin tayo makakapaghanda so sana mai-enroll na (If we don't know how many will be inside a classroom, we can't prepare either so hopefully they can enroll now),” he added.
