LPA, ‘habagat’ to bring scattered rains over parts of northern, central Luzon

(MANILA BULLETIN)

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low pressure area (LPA) may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” that will bring scattered rains over parts of northern and central Luzon.

The LPA, which formed on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 17, was estimated at 250 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will likely affect the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, Zambales, and Bataan.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in these areas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
